It all began in 2019 when I first dipped my toes into the world of technology. Fueled by curiosity, I built an Arduino Alarm System—a project that taught me the joy of creating solutions from scratch. The system featured a screen that displayed alarm status and a joystick-based password input. These small but exciting steps marked the beginning of my journey, and I realized how much potential technology held for innovation.

By 2020, I was ready to take my passion to the next level during my first work term in research and development. My primary task was to implement an online streaming surveillance monitoring system using RFID technology.
Through rigorous experimentation, I improved user tracking accuracy and optimized antenna placement, enabling a reliable 7-10 meter reading range. It was a great learning opportunity where I had to balance theoretical knowledge with practical problem-solving, and I emerged with a deeper appreciation for engineering's impact on the real world.

In 2021, my journey led me to the world of frontend development during my second work term with the OCIO at GovNL. My task was to revamp government websites, ensuring accessibility and efficiency.
The highlight was launching two .NET Framework websites, where I learned the importance of creating inclusive digital spaces. ReactJS became a trusted ally as I optimized user interfaces and reduced load times. Each day brought new challenges, but it also brought new opportunities to hone my craft.

My university days were filled with collaborative growth, and 2022 was no exception. A key milestone was our software design project, where we worked together to develop the backend architecture for a LinkedIn clone.
Using Flask, RabbitMQ, and Redis, I explored the intricacies of backend systems, gaining insights into designing scalable and efficient solutions. It was also a year of experimenting with new tools and ideas, which set the stage for larger projects ahead.

During my third work term at J.D. Irving, I immersed myself in designing intranet websites for multiple departments. As a SharePoint developer, I learned to tailor solutions to meet unique team needs.
I streamlined processes to make documents more accessible and embraced Agile methodologies, which significantly sped up development cycles. Along the way, I earned my Six Sigma White Belt certification, cementing my understanding of quality-driven workflows.

Outside of work, I ventured into the realm of game development and created Biocraze, a 2D platformer built with SFML and C++. This project was a delightful departure from my usual work it challenged me to think differently, pushing the boundaries of my creativity. Designing levels and mechanics from scratch was a fulfilling reminder of the joy of bringing ideas to life.

In 2023, my focus shifted to building impactful projects. One standout was a social media app inspired by Facebook. With React and Clerk for authentication, I created an intuitive user experience, while reusable Figma components made UI development efficient.

My fourth work term brought me to NL Eats, where I combined technology with environmental consciousness. I developed a backend system for a hydroponic monitoring platform, enabling real-time tracking of water usage via Arduino sensors integrated with Azure IoT.
This role was deeply rewarding, as it aligned my technical expertise with a purpose: promoting sustainable practices. Designing a responsive landing page and improving user engagement made this experience even more fulfilling.

As part of my capstone project, I took on a challenge that would combine engineering and sustainability. As a team member, I contributed to designing a farm monitoring system equipped with Arduino sensors to measure moisture, humidity, pH, and temperature.
The project's real-time dashboard, integrated with Firebase, offered a live overview of plant health. This was not just an academic exercise—it was a vision of how technology can empower smarter, greener farming.

One of my proudest achievements was building an Airbnb clone with a twist. The platform featured an AI chatbot named Valley, designed to handle tenant inquiries seamlessly. Valley became a game-changer, improving user satisfaction while saving hosts valuable time.
This project also introduced me to advanced testing techniques, using Cypress and Jest to ensure high-quality deployments. It was a testament to how innovation can elevate even the simplest of ideas.

To close the year on a high note, my team and I achieved a groundbreaking milestone by winning the NASA Hackathon. Together, we developed FarmInSight, an innovative online dashboard powered by NASA satellites that predicts future climate conditions, such as floods and temperature changes. This tool empowers farmers to plan their crop sows strategically, paving the way for improved yields and sustainable agriculture.
This achievement wasn't just about the technology—it was about using it to make a real difference in people's lives. It reminded me why I started this journey in the first place: to create solutions that matter.
